India women’s national field hockey team will begin its Australia tour later this month as part of preparations for the upcoming Nations Cup and the busy international season ahead.
India will face Australia women’s national field hockey team in four matches at Perth Hockey Stadium between May 26 and May 30.
Four matches scheduled in Perth
According to the schedule, the first two matches will be played on May 26 and 27 at 5:00 PM IST, while the remaining two games on May 29 and 30 will begin at 11:00 AM IST.
Following the Australia tour, the Indian team will travel to New Zealand for practice matches ahead of the Nations Cup tournament.
Team enters tour with confidence
The Indian side heads into the tour after a positive outing in Argentina earlier this year, where the team secured two victories in a four-match series.
Since returning, the players have been training at the Sports Authority of India camp in Bengaluru, focusing on improving fitness, tactical structure and key technical areas.
Special drag-flick training planned
With support from Anandana, Indian drag-flickers will also undergo a specialised training programme under Dutch hockey legend Taeke Taekema.
The training clinic will run from May 26 to June 21 across Perth and Auckland.
Coach highlights importance of exposure
Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne said the tour would help the team assess its progress after recent training camps and improve consistency against stronger international opponents.
He added that travelling via Australia before reaching New Zealand would also help the team gradually acclimatise to colder weather conditions ahead of the Nations Cup.
