Diplomatic meeting at BRICS summit: PM Modi talks with visiting foreign ministers

New Delhi, 14 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started two-day BRICS here from Thursday BRICS Met the foreign ministers who had come to attend the conference. As per the pre-determined schedule, PM Modi held a joint meeting at Seva Teerth. According to the scheduled program, at 7 pm, Foreign Minister S. A dinner will be organized by Jaishankar at Bharat Mandapam.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar formally welcomed the foreign ministers from all over the world at the Bharat Mandapam. Presiding over the meeting S. Jaishankar noted India’s clear stance on global issues.

Dr. Jaishankar said, ‘Peace and security are at the center of the global order. Recent conflicts have further highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. In this complex and uncertain world, discussions must move towards sustainable development while maintaining the principles of equality and common but differentiated responsibilities. Technological advancements are reshaping the global landscape and can be harnessed for good governance and inclusive growth. There are also common interests in strengthening cooperation against terrorism.

Referring to the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that obstructions to sea lanes and threats to energy infrastructure can affect the economic stability of the entire world. At such a time, safe and uninterrupted sea flow is extremely important.

This year’s topic- ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainable Development’

Foreign ministers of BRICS countries and heads of delegations of member and partner countries are participating in the meeting. The theme of this year, organized under the chairmanship of India, is ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainable Development.’ This theme is inspired by the humanity first and people-centric approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The meeting is being attended by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato Seri Utama Mohammed bin Haji Hassan, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, and South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola, among others.

On the second day on Friday, BRICS members and partner countries will participate in a special session on ‘BRICS at 20: Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Building for Sustainable Development’. After this, reforms in global governance and multilateral system will be discussed.
