US Waives $15,000 Visa Bond for World Cup Fans From 50 Countries

Major relief for all the football fans heading to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Trump administration has confirmed that fans from 50 countries travelling to the US for the FIFA World Cup 2026 will not need to pay the $15,000 visa bond if they hold valid match tickets.

The Trump administration announced the exemption ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will host from June 11.

What Was the US Visa Bond Rule?

The US introduced the visa bond programme last year as part of a wider immigration crackdown. Under the rule, officials could require travellers from certain countries considered high-risk for visa overstays to pay a refundable bond of up to $15,000 before entering the country.

US officials also said they would return the money after travellers left the country within their approved visa period. The policy mainly targeted countries where the US believed visa overstays were more common or where screening systems were weaker.

World Cup Fans Now Exempt

According to Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar, football fans who have confirmed World Cup tickets will no longer need to pay the bond.

It is worth noting here that all the players and coaches were already exempt earlier, but ordinary supporters had not been included until now.

The decision is expected to make travel easier for thousands of fans planning to attend matches in the US during the tournament.

Countries Already Qualified for the Tournament

Five countries affected by the visa bond policy have already qualified for the World Cup:

  • Algeria
  • Cape Verde
  • Ivory Coast
  • Senegal
  • Tunisia

Fans from these nations can now travel without worrying about the extra deposit requirement if they meet the World Cup travel conditions.

Some Restrictions Still Remain

Not every country received the same treatment.

Travellers from Iran and Haiti are still subject to travel restrictions and remain barred under current US rules. However, players and coaches from those countries can still enter for official World Cup activities.

Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast and Senegal continue to face partial restrictions under expanded US travel measures.

Social Media Checks Could Still Affect Travellers

Even with the visa bond waiver, some travellers may still face extra screening before entering the US. Last year, the US government proposed requiring visitors from dozens of countries to provide up to five years of social media history during the visa process.

Rights groups have warned that stricter screening policies could lead to longer checks, denied entry, increased surveillance, and racial profiling for some travellers.

FIFA PASS Offers Faster US Visa Interviews

Another major relief for football fans travelling to the US for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is that they can now request priority visa interview appointments through FIFA PASS, provided they purchased their match tickets directly from FIFA.

FIFA Welcomes the Decision

FIFA welcomed the announcement and said it reflects continued cooperation with the White House ahead of the tournament. The organisation said it appreciates the partnership aimed at delivering a successful and memorable World Cup in 2026.

Final Thoughts

Millions of fans will travel across North America for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and the latest exemption should ease concerns about the costly US visa bond requirement.
