full moon 2026
Jyeshtha Purnima 2026: The last date of this month is Jeshtha Purnima on 31st May. Something unique will be seen in the sky this night. Actually, a rare lunar conjunction will be seen in the sky, which may sound a bit strange because both 'Blue Moon' and 'Micro Moon' will be visible at the same time. According to the Drik Panchang, the Purnima Tithi in India will start at 11:57 am on May 30 and will end at 2:14 pm on May 31. Purnima will be celebrated in Oriya Tithi i.e. on 31st May and Purnima fast will be observed on this day.
On May 31, the moon will be visible in its full form on the full moon, but instead of the usual bright and slightly larger full moon, something different will be seen. It will appear a little smaller, a little less bright and somewhat unique, which is called a rare blue moon. This type of incident happens once in two and a half years. Earlier on August 19, 2024, the world had seen a super blue moon.
What is a rare blue moon? (What is a Rare Blue Moon)
'Blue Moon' has nothing to do with color. It is an astronomical event based on the calendar. This happens when the full moon is visible twice in the same month. In simple words, there are full moons twice in the same month. The first full moon was on 1st May and the second full moon was on 31st May. The color of the moon will not change during this period. It will still appear white or pale yellow and will completely illuminate the night sky. The term “blue moon” is entirely part of astronomical language.
