New Delhi: Government oil companies on Friday revised the prices of petrol and diesel after a long gap of four years, increasing the prices of both the fuels by Rs 3 per litre. According to sources, the price of petrol in the national capital Delhi has increased from Rs 94.77 per liter to Rs 97.77 per liter.
This increase is only about one-tenth of what was required given the sharp increase in global energy prices following the West Asian conflict.
Sources said state-run oil companies kept fuel prices unchanged for 11 weeks despite rising costs, but had to pass on part of the cost to consumers when operations became uneconomic. Petrol and diesel prices were stable from April 2022. However, just before the Lok Sabha elections in March 2024, there was a one-time cut of Rs 2 per liter in the prices of both the fuels.
