New Delhi. Amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, public sector oil and gas marketing companies have increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 each per litre.

The price of CNG has also been increased by Rs 2 per kg. The new rates have come into effect from today. The price of petrol and diesel has been increased after about four years.

Now the price of petrol in Delhi has increased from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per liter and the price of diesel has increased from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per liter. Fuel prices have also increased in metros like Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.

Petrol in Kolkata has increased by Rs 3.29 to now reach Rs 108.74 per liter. In the country’s financial capital Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 106.68 per liter, which has increased by Rs 3.14.

In South India’s big city Chennai, the price of petrol has increased by Rs 2.83 and the new price has become Rs 103.67 per liter. The price of diesel in Kolkata has increased by Rs 3.11.

One liter diesel is available there for Rs 95.13. In Mumbai too, diesel has become costlier by Rs 3.11 and has reached Rs 93.14 per litre. The price of diesel in Chennai has been increased by Rs 2.86. Diesel is now available there at Rs 95.25 per litre.

A customer at a Bharat Petroleum pump in Delhi’s Preet Vihar said, “What can we do about this? All these things come from other countries. They are not produced here.”

Therefore, whatever step the government is taking is in the interest of the country. The opposition is attacking the rising prices of petrol and diesel. Congress wrote on Twitter, “Inflation Man has launched a hunter on the public.” SP chief Akhilesh Yadav taunted and said that if we want to move ahead, then bicycle is the only option.

Experts say that this increase in the price of petrol, diesel and CNG has been done amidst the continuous losses being incurred by the fuel selling companies due to the rising global prices of crude oil. The price of crude oil in the international market is around $106 per barrel.
