What is PM Surya Ghar Yojana?

This scheme was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024. The objective of the scheme is to provide up to 300 units of free electricity every month to the people by installing Rooftop Solar System in their homes. Along with this, the government is also giving subsidy on installation of solar panels.

How much subsidy is available?

The government gives subsidy according to the capacity of the solar system.

Around ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system
Around ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system
Subsidy up to ₹78,000 on 3 kW or above

Additional state subsidy is also being given in many states including Uttar Pradesh.

Who can avail the benefits of the scheme?

• Applicant must be an Indian citizen
• It is necessary to have a valid electricity connection at home
• There should be space to install solar panels on the roof
• Must not have availed any other solar subsidy previously

The government has started an online portal for applications. You can apply by visiting PM Surya Ghar Official Portal. You can take DISCOM approval and also check the status of subsidy.

The government has kept a budget of ₹22,000 crore for PM Surya Ghar Yojana in the 2026-27 budget, which is more than last year. According to the information given in Parliament, till now more than 32 lakh families have benefited from this scheme.
