New Delhi: As US President Donald Trump is on a visit to China, he attended a lavish state banquet dinner hosted by Chinese President XI Jinping in Beijing. The menu was carefully curated to offer the cultural roots and experience of China in each bite to the President.
From Beijing roast duck, also known as Peking Duck, lobster in tomato soup, crispy beef ribs, stewed seasonal vegetables, slow-cooked salmon, to pan-fried pork ribs, the evening’s spread reflected China’s long-standing tradition of using food as a subtle instrument of statecraft.
Inside Donald Trump’s state dinner in ChinaAs per the reports by the BBC, the banquet was welcomed with hors d’oeuvres before moving on to an elaborate main course. For the dessert, Trump was served ‘a trumpet shell-shaped pastry’, tiramisu, fresh cut fruits and ice cream.
US President Donald Trump is known to be a picky eater, and his love for American food is endless, such as steaks, chocolate cream pie, and burgers. However, during his visit to China he mentioned the popularity of Chinese restaurants in the United States and how they are serving authentic flavours to people.
“Just as many Chinese now love basketball and blue jeans, Chinese restaurants in America today outnumber the five largest fast food chains in the United States, all combined,” President Trump said.

The grand banquet also saw the presence of notable global leaders, including Elon Musk, along with outgoing Tim Cook and David Solomon, making the event a gathering of some of the world’s most influential business figures.
For many years, China has relied on the deep cultural symbolism of food to mark historic state occasions and welcome prominent international guests. In modern Chinese history, periods of famine and political upheaval marked by long stretches of rationing elevated food into a powerful symbol of status and prosperity.
