Doddaballapur: Officials stopped the marriage of a minor girl at a wedding hall in the city during a late-night operation.
Under the guidance of District Child Protection Officer Anita Lakshmi, staff members of the Child Helpline, District Child Protection Unit and police personnel visited the wedding hall around 12.30 am and verified the girl’s documents.
According to the Aadhaar card, the girl’s age was shown as 18 years and six months. However, officials cross-checked school records and birth documents and found that the girl was actually 16 years and six months old.
The wedding reception had already concluded, and traditional marriage rituals including the bangle ceremony were being conducted at the time of inspection.
The groom’s family is said to be from Jakkasandra in the taluk, while the girl’s family originally belongs to North Karnataka.
