The performance of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been very poor. The team is out of the race for the playoffs. He has only 6 points in 11 matches and is at ninth position in the table. The environment of the team is being said to be responsible for this condition of MI. It is being said that everything is not going well in the MI team. Social media users are claiming that due to factionalism the 5-time IPL champion team could not play unitedly.
There have been question marks on the atmosphere of the team ever since Rohit Sharma was removed from the captaincy before IPL 2024 and Hardik Pandya was given the reins of MI. Trading Pandya to Gujarat Titans and directly handing over the captaincy did not go down well with many senior players. In IPL 2024, the team looked scattered and stood last in the points table. Last season, MI bounced back from a poor start and reached Qualifier 2. It seemed that things have settled down now but whatever has happened in the middle of the current season has once again fueled the rumors.
MI had to change captain again
Pandya did not play in the last 2 matches due to injury. In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav took command of the team. He led MI to a win under his captaincy. There was a possibility that Pandya would return and lead the team again on Thursday (May 14) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) but he did not go to Dharamshala for the match. Earlier, Pandya had shared a video of batting practice in his Insta story, from which it was understood that he has become completely fit. But many speculations are being made about his not playing in the match against PBKS.
On the other hand, Surya also did not travel with the team to Dharamshala, due to which MI had to change the captain again. This time Jasprit Bumrah was given the command of the team. He became the 10th player to captain MI in the IPL. Bumrah told during the toss that Surya was not playing due to personal reasons. Apart from Pandya, the market of speculation is hot as Surya also did not reach Dharamshala for the match.
