Gorakhpur is soon going to make its strong mark on the international sports map. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will perform the bhoomi pujan and lay the foundation stone of the state-of-the-art international cricket stadium to be built in the city on Saturday (May 16). This stadium, built at a cost of approximately Rs 393 crore, is considered to give new heights to the sports infrastructure of Purvanchal.

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav will also be present in the foundation stone laying program. This project is considered to be included in the dream projects of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, whose aim is to make Gorakhpur a major center for national and international sports events.

Modern cricket stadium will be built on 46 acres

This international cricket stadium, to be built in Tal Nador area of ​​Gorakhpur, will be developed in an area of ​​about 46 acres. The total spectator capacity of the stadium will be around 30 thousand.

The stadium will be built on ‘ground plus two floor’ model. 7 playing pitches and 4 practice pitches will be made for the players on the main ground, which will provide facilities for organizing national and international level matches.

There will be seating arrangements for about 14,490 spectators in the eastern and western stands. Apart from this, special facilities will be developed for 208 VIPs and 382 media representatives in the North Pavilion. There will be a provision of 1708 seats for VVIP and VIP guests in the South Pavilion.

Hi-tech arrangements for day-night matches

Four high mast floodlights will be installed in the stadium as per international standards, which will make it possible to organize day-night cricket matches here.

Apart from this, the use of this complex will not be limited to cricket only. Facilities will also be developed here for big cultural, social and other sports events.

construction work going on rapidly

After the Chief Minister’s announcement, the administration had made land available in Tal Nador area. After this, construction work has started from 24 December 2025.

Rs 63.39 crore has been released by the government as the first installment of the project, due to which the initial construction work is progressing rapidly.

According to the Public Works Department (Building Division), about 7 percent of the work has been completed so far. The project is targeted to be completed within the stipulated time frame by 23 December 2027.

Better connectivity will become a big strength

This stadium to be built in Tal Nador is also considered very important in terms of connectivity. It is connected to Gorakhpur-Varanasi fourlane highway.

The distance of the stadium will be about 24 kilometers from Gorakhpur Airport and about 20 kilometers from the Railway Station, which will make it easy for players, officials and spectators to reach here.

Purvanchal will get a new sports hub

Experts believe that this project will promote sports culture in Gorakhpur and Purvanchal region as well as provide international level facilities to the local youth.

Apart from this, tourism, hotels and local business are also expected to get new momentum through big sports events.
