A psychological thriller that kept viewers on the edge of their seats is returning for a second series.

The debut series of The Ex-Wife first aired in 2022, captivating audiences with the tale of Tasha (Céline Buckens), whose apparently blissful marriage to husband Jack (Tom Mison) was overshadowed by his ex-wife Jen (played by Janet Montgomery). Its second series is now set to be broadcast on Channel 5 on Friday, May 15.

The second season picks up three years after the conclusion of series one, with Tasha now hiding in Cyprus with her daughter Emily (Liberty Miller), while Jen has moved on, reportsthe Mirror.

A synopsis said: "Living under false identities, Tasha has started a new life for herself and Emily.

"However, Tasha is forced to abandon her fresh start when she learns that Jack has been released from prison early - having only served a year of his sentence."

It continued: "Jack appears to be a changed man, grieving the death of his daughter and searching for redemption from a newly engaged Jen.

"With the shadow of the past haunting all three characters, attempts at moving on only bring them closer together, but who can each of them really trust, and can anyone truly change?"

The Ex-Wife proved a resounding success when the first series aired, with one viewer on Imdb declaring it was "one of the best television thrillers ever", while others described it as "watchable" and "more-ish".

Further comments praised its "plenty of twists and turns" across its four episodes. One viewer took to Reddit after watching: "OMG Britbox!! You kept me up last night."

"I went all in and leaned into every twist and turn," added another.

Critics were equally effusive in their praise for the series, with one describing it as "tense and sinister".

A reviewer in The Times wrote: "Unashamedly pot-boilerish, it puts plot twists before character credibility. Am I enjoying it? Yes."

The Herald's review of The Ex-Wife said: "I'll say one thing for The Ex-Wife -- it does not hang about, going from 0-60 in no time."

The Ex-Wife's second series will start at 9pm on Channel 5 on Friday May 15.
