New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) In a case of suspected suicide, a 21-year-old woman ended her life by hanging herself in north Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, an incident which took place within days of her appearing in the NEET UG exam on May 3, police said.
The exact cause of victim Anshika Pandey’s extreme step is yet to be ascertained by the police, said a police official.
Her family members claimed she was under stress due to the NEET exam cancellation and continuous academic pressure while preparing for her fourth attempt.
The family of Anshika Pandey, who did not leave behind a suicide note, is being questioned by police as they took the body on Thursday from their home in Lal Bagh area near Azadpur to a crematorium in Keval Park without reporting the incident to law enforcers, said an official.
According to the police, the family’s attempt to conduct her last rites hurriedly raised suspicion among the staff at the cremation ground.
The cremation ground’s staff informed the police, who rushed to the spot and took custody of the body. The body was later sent for post-mortem, the police said.
Anshika’s maternal uncle, Muni Ji Pandey, said, "...The paper got cancelled. Everyone studies for their future. Her exam had gone well, and she was good in studies."
A day earlier, the NTA had ordered a re-exam of NEET UG in which Anshika had appeared.
