Mitchell Marsh played one of the best knocks of IPL 2026 on Friday night, but was heartbreakingly run out as Lucknow Super Giants faced Chennai Super Kings at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Chasing 188, LSG completely decimated the CSK attack and Marsh ensured the home side remained on top in the game with his fearless batting display. The Australian all-rounder smashed a 38-ball 90 including 9 fours and 7 sixes, at a striking rate of 236.84.
The right-hander went on to attack almost every bowler and seemed to set up a century until luck went against him in the 12th over.
Marsh's Sensational Knock Cut Short in Unlucky Way
The unfortunate run out took place on the 5th ball of the 12th over. Mukesh Choudhary bowled a full delivery, Nicholas Pooran hit it straight towards the bowler and Mukesh got a hand on it in his follow through. The small deflection was sufficient to knock the stumps at the non-striker's end with Marsh caught well short of his crease while backing up.
The batter realized it instantly and was seen walking back to the pavilion. The crowd in Lucknow seemed disappointed to see such an innings cut short when it was almost certain Marsh was going to score a sensational century.

LSG Still Dominant Despite Marsh Departure
It was a setback for LSG at this stage when Marsh departed however they remained dominant in their chase of 189. LSG at this stage (12 overs in) were 136/2 requiring only 52 off 48.
Earlier in the innings, Inglis had been dismissed after scoring 36 off 32 balls, courtsy Mukesh Choudhary. Pooran was joined by Abdul Samad at the crease after Marsh's dismissal.
From the perspective of CSK, Mukesh Choudhary was key in taking the wickets as well as the economical spell delivered by Noor Ahmad in tough bowling conditions.
Although he will be disappointed to miss a century, his innings once again highlighted what a threat Marsh continues to be in T20 Cricket.
