Gordon Ramsay was left unusually "lost for words" after Adam Peaty-Ramsay chose to take the TV chef's surname upon marrying his daughter. The Olympic swimming champion will debut his new name in elite competition after being selected for the England squad at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Peaty-Ramsay, 31, has the chance to become the first English swimmer to clinch four consecutive gold medals at the Games when he returns to the city where his remarkable journey began back in 2014.

Peaty-Ramsay's attention has firmly shifted back to the pool following a turbulent year that saw him fall out with his own family before tying the knot with the Ramsays. Adam and Holly wed late last year in a lavish ceremony at Bath Abbey, attended by a host of celebrities including the Beckhams, though notably not his mother. The evening before the wedding, the couple revealed to Gordon and his wife, Tana, their intention to take each other's surnames. Reflecting on the heartfelt moment, Gordon told the Daily Mail earlier this year: "They told us the night before the wedding. I was lost for words. A wonderful suggestion. Very modern."

In the same interview, Gordon dismissed suggestions that Adam's parents had been deliberately excluded. He said: "It's just upsetting. It's all self-inflicted from their side, because we've done nothing - none of what you've read: no rudeness, no ignorance - we welcomed them.

"We sent a chauffeur-driven car for them to come to the engagement party and treated them like royalty. So to get that barrage of press was very hurtful. Tana took it very seriously."

The Ramsay family will be throwing their fervent support behind Adam when he competes in Glasgow. The three-time Olympic champion said: "Being selected to represent your country is always an honour, and there is something special about a home Commonwealth Games.

"The event also marks a significant milestone in my international career, which began in Glasgow 12 years ago at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"I'm particularly excited to compete in Scotland this summer as I know everyone will come together to make it a brilliant occasion."

He also has the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles firmly in his crosshairs after winning 100m breaststroke silver in 2024. Speaking earlier this year, he told the BBC: "I've given everything on this preparation and the most exciting thing is the future now.

"The next few months, we'll hopefully get this [his time] down because I know the World Championships [in December] is much more competitive. That's the reason I get up every day.

"When you experience a lot of pain, you know where to put it. I know the next two years I am going to use that. Also show a lot of love to the sport and give back as much as possible. I want to be on top of that [Olympic] podium in two years' time."
