UK weather maps show 26C 'mini-heatwave' - 32 counties 23C or above

The UK is set to bask in soaring temperatures as a 26C 'mini heatwave' hits the country next week. According to the latest weather maps, whole of the UK will see warmer conditions on May 23, a week after battling the cold winds in middle of May.

WXCharts weather maps, which are prepared using the MetDesk data, have turned yellow and orange pointing, towards the possiblity of hot weather. A "mini-heatwave" is defined if temperatures are above 20C, especially if at a time of year when you wouldn't expect temperatures to be that high. According to the maps, areas in Scotland will see mercury levels oscillating between 14 and 15C. However, the warmest conditions will seen areas around London with temperatures soaring to highs of 26C.

Parts of Manchester, York and Birmingham could see temperatures between 23C and 24C. According to the weather maps, 32 counties in England will see temperature highs of 23C or above, making it a visibly warmer day for Brits.

The Met Office's long-range forecast May 20-29 reads: "Changeable conditions are expected at first, with low pressure often close by to the north of the UK, bringing rain and showers.

"However, high pressure from the south is expected to quickly start to build near to the UK towards the Bank Holiday weekend, bringing some fine and dry conditions, with temperatures rising accordingly for some.

"Thereafter, high pressure is expected to broadly remain the dominant influence across much of the UK, with spells of fine weather.

"Low pressure will be positioned to the north, and will at times allow some rain or showers to cross the country. Overall across the period, temperatures are expected to be above normal with winds often light for many."
