South Indian filmmaker RJ Balaji’s action drama, Karuppustarring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, finally reached theatres on May 15 after a one-day delay.
At the screening in Chennai’s Rohini Silver Screens, Balaji’s excitement was visible. He recreated an emotional moment reminiscent of the Telugu film Jerseypumping his fist in the air and almost breaking down as the audience cheered. Trisha Krishnan, Sai Abhyankkar, and Suriya’s brother, actor Karthi, stood by him, offering support and sharing in his joy.
Balaji later shared, “This is a moment of victory I will never forget. The audience’s energy made everything worthwhile.” Fans who attended the screening took to social media to share videos, calling it his “moment of deserved triumph.” One fan commented, “The man is literally crying,” while another wrote, “You won, Mara.”
The release had faced several hurdles. Despite obtaining permission from actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay to hold early shows, screenings were initially cancelled.
Digital cinema solution Qube mistakenly screened the film in Mumbai, Pune, and Varanasi before the official release. Producer SR Prabhu held meetings with the Producers Council to ensure theatres received the proper Key Delivery Message (KDM) and warned fans against sharing clips online.
The film also featured Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada and Anagha Maaya Ravi in important roles.
Analysts projected that the film could have achieved a ₹25 crore opening if released on time.
The film’s official release was confirmed early on Friday, bringing relief to fans and the team alike.
