The strike has been called under the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
Main cause of strike: Shortage of staff and work stress
AISBISF has put a total of 16 major demands before the administration. The most important issue in this is acute shortage of staff in the branches. According to the union, there has been no new recruitment for the post of ‘messenger’ for the last 30 years, while the number of employees in the clerical cadre has also been steadily decreasing. The union alleged that outsourced staff was being used for routine tasks, which was affecting the quality of banking services and staff safety.
