Weather Warning – May 16: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are expected to remain adverse in several parts of the country today. While South India and the Northeast will witness torrential rainfall, some states are simultaneously bracing for intense heat. So, let’s take a look at the weather forecast for various states.
Weather Warning: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for several states across the country over the next four days. On May 16, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The IMD has also released its latest weather bulletin for May 16. Alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall have been issued for more than 19 states across the nation. According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds gusting at speeds of 50–60 km/h may sweep across Bihar.
While alerts for torrential rain have been issued for South India and the Northeast on one hand, parts of North and Central India are expected to remain under the grip of a heatwave on the other. So, let’s take a look at the weather forecast for the country on May 16.
Delhi Weather
According to the Meteorological Department, dark clouds are likely to hover over Delhi’s skies on the evening of May 16. During this period, wind speeds are expected to range between 20 and 30 km/h. In Delhi, the maximum temperature is likely to reach 39°C, while the minimum is expected to hover around 28°C.
Bihar Weather
An alert for rainfall has been issued for today—Saturday—for most districts of Bihar. These include Gaya, West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Patna, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Munger, Banka, Madhubani, Saharsa, Bhagalpur, Purnia, and Katihar, among others. During this period, strong squalls with gusts of 80–85 km/h may occur.
Uttar Pradesh Weather
A warning for rain and thunderstorms has been issued for several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Azamgarh, Sonbhadra, Mau, and Ballia. During this time, stormy winds are expected to reach 60-65 km/h.
Punjab Weather
An alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Amritsar, Mohali, Bathinda, Mansa, Kapurthala, Moga, Barnala, and Ludhiana in Punjab. During this period, gusty winds are expected to reach 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.
Rajasthan Weather
Warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have been issued for Alwar, Barmer, Dholpur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, and Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Warning for Extremely Heavy Rainfall in These States
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Additionally, heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Kerala, Mahe, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Tamil Nadu. Rain warnings have also been issued for Andhra Pradesh, Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep.
Warning for Severe Heatwave
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Vidarbha on May 16.
The weather is expected to remain quite hot in the coastal regions of Konkan and Goa.
