Oreos have established themselves as a household staple throughout Britain thanks to the iconic cookies and cream flavour. They remain a cherished treat, though numerous supermarket alternatives are now readily available.
I chose to test a range of cookies and cream flavoured biscuits from Lidl, Aldi, Asda and Marks and Spencer. I assessed them on taste to determine whether they could measure up against the real deal. To my surprise, the cheapest biscuit in my experiment proved to be the best as it tasted just like the branded version while providing value for money.
Lidl - £1.59 (Jumbo ones)At my local Lidl, I could only find the Jumbo Neo biscuits, though I did not rate the biscuits on their size. Instead, I concentrated purely on the flavour.
The biscuit was considerably tougher than anticipated and crunchier than a branded Oreo. I like an Oreo for its crumbly consistency, so this disappointed me. I also found the flavour wasn't as strong as others in the test.

Asda - 58pAsda's biscuits had a more crumbly consistency, comparable to Oreo's. I found it tasted considerably closer to the branded biscuits than Lidl managed. Again, I would have preferred a stronger flavour.

M&S - £1These biscuits contained the most cream amongst all of them, which I appreciated. The biscuit crumbled a lot as I opened the packet, yet it had the correct consistency. I enjoyed the taste of these, and the rectangular shape was similar to a custard cream.

Oreo - £1.28, currently reduced to 85p at AsdaThe branded biscuits deliver that classic cookies and cream flavour, and the crumbly biscuit I like. They are a classic biscuit for a reason, and enjoyed by many.

Aldi - 49pIt came as quite a surprise that Aldi managed to match the Oreo biscuits in taste and texture. Placed side by side, the two look very similar and have an identical taste. These biscuits tipped it for me as they taste so similar to the branded ones, but are much cheaper.
