New Delhi: A student’s emotional post on Reddit has triggered discussion online after he claimed his father reacted violently to his Class 12 board examination results.
The post was shared on Reddit’s r/CBSE forum under the title, “I know I am late here, but this is what my father did after 12th results were out.”
Attached to the post was an image showing what appeared to be a completely destroyed laptop lying shattered across the floor. The broken screen, detached keyboard pieces and damaged internal parts suggested the device had been smashed forcefully.

In the caption, the student claimed that the incident took place after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced Class 12 results earlier this month.
“And if that wasn’t enough, he took away my room and bed from me, and makes me sleep on the floor now. I am facing verbal, physical, mental and emotional abuse since the results are out,” the student wrote.
The student further said that he had scored 57.4 per cent in the examination and had received “Essential Repeat”, a CBSE classification requiring students to reappear in specific subjects.
Netizens react
The post quickly gained attention online, with many social media users expressing concern over the student’s well-being and criticising the father’s harsh reaction over the student’s academic performance.
Several commenters urged the student to prioritise personal safety and seek support. Others said they were disturbed by the growing number of stories involving extreme parental pressure following examination results.
Some users sympathised with the student and argued that marks should never become a reason for abuse or humiliation within families.
The viral post also reignited larger conversations around academic stress and expectations placed on students in India.
While some users encouraged the student to focus on improving academically, many stressed that emotional support and understanding were equally important during difficult periods.
