New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has announced a major success on Friday. He said that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the second most important leader of the ISIS terrorist organization globally, has been killed. This action took place in a joint operation of American and Nigerian armies.

Trump’s announcement

Posting on the Truth social platform, Trump wrote, “Tonight, under my direction, the brave American military and the Nigerian Armed Forces successfully completed a well-planned and extremely complex mission.” He described Abu-Bilal al-Minuki as one of the most active terrorists in the world. Trump further said that al-Minuki thought he could be safe by hiding in Africa, but American intelligence sources were constantly keeping an eye on him.

success of joint operation

This operation was carried out with excellent coordination between American and Nigerian soldiers. President Trump described it as “impeccable.” He said that al-Minuki has been removed from the battlefield forever. This success is being considered a major blow to ISIS because al-Minuqi was the number two leader of the organization globally.

Trump thanked Nigeria

Trump especially thanked the Nigerian government and its armed forces in this campaign. He appreciated the security cooperation between the two countries. However, before this Trump had criticized Nigeria a lot.

He had made allegations of atrocities against the Christian community there, which were completely rejected by the Nigerian government. Despite this, both the countries worked together in this important campaign against terrorism.

It is noteworthy that last year also on Christmas day, America had attacked Islamic targets in the north-western region of Nigeria. After Trump’s allegations, a change was seen in security cooperation. ISIS branches are active in Africa and Al-Minuqi was associated with these activities.

Strong message against terrorism

President Trump has given a clear message that wherever terrorists hide, America and its allies will find them. This incident can give a new direction to anti-terrorism operations at the international level. America has been running a campaign against organizations like ISIS for a long time. The fight against local terrorist groups continues in Nigeria also.
