In the 59th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Lucknow Super Giants defeated Chennai Super Kings in a resounding victory. However, after the end of the match, a major action was taken against the captain Rishabh Pant. On Friday (15th), an important match was played between Chennai and Lucknow at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ikana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. In this match, Lucknow defeated Chennai by 7 wickets. During the match, LSG LSG could not complete their overs within the allotted time. Due to this action was taken against Pant under IPL Code of Conduct 2.22. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s IPL Governing Council has fined Pant Rs 12 lakh for keeping the over rate low.

IPL issued a statement
A statement issued by the IPL said that this was Lucknow Super Giants’ first offense of slow over rate this season. Also, for the first time, Pant violated IPL Code of Conduct 2.22. Due to this, captain Pant has been fined Rs 12 lakh. As per IPL rules, the captain is penalized for the team’s slow over rate. If Lucknow repeats the same mistake in the next match, they will have to pay a fine of 24 lakhs. Pant is not the first captain to be punished for a slow over rate this season. The IPL has earlier sanctioned several captains including Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel.
Lucknow spoiled Chennai’s ‘game’
CSK Chennai’s playoff hopes have been dealt a major blow by the loss against Lucknow. The team has slipped to sixth place with 12 points and a run rate of 0.027. Meanwhile, Lucknow, who are already out of the playoff race, have slipped to 10th place in the points table.
A disappointing performance by Lucknow
The Lucknow team is out of the playoff race. His performance this season has been disappointing. They have played 12 matches so far, out of which they have won only four matches and lost eight matches. With 8 points, they are at the 10th position in the points table. This is Lucknow’s second consecutive season under Pant’s captaincy.
