Countryfile star Adam Henson has spoken out on the lack of education the UK has currently, under the Labour government. The BBC presenter, who will be appearing at Farm Fest later this month, has said that the educational deficiency is having an impact on other areas, such as health.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Adam said: "If you look at the NHS, they're struggling but part of that is due to malnutrition. That's not necessarily always about not eating enough food, it's sometimes about eating the wrong food. A lot of that comes down to education." He added that he "wishes there was a GCSE" to teach young people about the importance of agriculture and what goes into it. However, that kind of education seems to be lacking - with television seemingly doing a better job of it.

Adam said: "I think programmes like Countryfile, which I'm on, Clarkson's Farm and all the stuff on YouTube like Channel 5's Time on the Farm and the Yorkshire Shepherdess - there are loads of farming programmes on television now, which is great.

"I think getting the story out there about the energy and effort and expertise which goes into agriculture is really important. For people to understand where their food really comes from is really important."

When asked if the current Labour government, headed by Sir Keir Starmer, are doing enough to help farmers, Adam replied: "They work closely with the National Farmers' Union and they have picked up from the previous government, the Conservatives, of putting into place a lot of the environmental schemes that the Labour government are continuing with for the foreseeable future.

"But I do think that we do rely on the NFU to lobby the government to support British agriculture the best that they can."

Adam is soon set to appear at The Great British Farm-Fest - a new three-day celebration of modern British farming. Taking place from May 22 to 24 at NAEC Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, the Festival blends serious agricultural insight with large-scale entertainment, positioning itself as the UK's most ambitious farm-led public event to date.

Speaking about the event, he said: "There's going to be lots of people to see and lots to do and learn about agriculture. It'll be great fun and there's plenty to look forward to."

Highlights include livestock from Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park, working dog displays, heavy machinery showcases, and future-facing agri-tech exhibits. Visitors can also attend talks in the Big Barn Theatre from leading farming voices, alongside live demonstrations in the Field to Fork Cookery Theatre.

The event will also feature appearances from prominent figures across farming, food and broadcasting, including Matt Tebbutt, Gareth Wyn Jones, John Craven, Xand Van Tulleken and Chris Moyles.
