Ration Card News: The online application process for obtaining ration cards has officially commenced in the national capital, Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made a major announcement regarding the issuance of 200,00,000 (two lakh) new ration cards this year.
Ration Cards in Delhi: Providing significant relief to consumers, the Delhi government has accelerated the online process—initiated after a gap of nearly eight years—for obtaining new ration cards and adding the names of family members to existing ones. According to the Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs, applicants can now apply for their ration cards seamlessly and without any hassle through the e-District portal. In this regard, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta marked the government's first anniversary by making the major announcement that 200,00,000 new ration cards would be issued this year.
Which Documents Are Required?
According to the new regulations, only online applications will be accepted henceforth. For the application process, it is mandatory for every family member to possess a unique identification number. Additionally, a proof of residence, an income certificate, and a copy of the electricity bill will be required.
Who Will Be Designated as the Head of the Family?
Going forward, the eldest female member of the family will be designated as the Head of the Family for the purpose of the ration card. However, in cases where the eldest female member is a minor (i.e., under the age of 18), the responsibility will be entrusted to the eldest male member until she attains legal majority.
What Is the Revised Income Limit?
To expand the coverage of the ration card scheme, the Delhi government has increased the annual household income ceiling from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,20,000.
Who Is Ineligible to Receive Ration Card Benefits?
Finally—and most importantly—it is essential to understand which categories of people are ineligible to receive the benefits of a ration card. Specifically, ration cards will not be issued to income tax payers, government employees, owners of four-wheeled vehicles, owners of land or property located in 'A' or 'E' category colonies, or families possessing an electricity connection with a load exceeding 2 kilowatts.
