A new poll has shown that 32% of Britons believe that King Charles' recent visit to the US has strengthened the relationship between the UK and America. The King and Queen Camilla travelled to the US for four days at the end of April, a visit that came with uncertainty after a shooting incident in Washington, DC raised security concerns.
The visit did, however, take place, with US President Donald Trump on hand to welcome the royal couple. A UK Ipsos poll, conducted between May 8 and 12, found that the visit changed the opinions of 32% of Britons.
Despite the positive results, 35% also disagreed that there is a special relationship between the two countries, and belief in the strength of that relationship is lower than in previous years.
It has been reported that over the last two years, belief in the strength of the special relationship has also declined among the American public.
In Ipsos US research carried out immediately after the visit, 34% of US adults agreed there was a special relationship between the two countries, down from 48% in May 2024.
This means that Britons and Americans are now both equally likely to believe there is currently a special relationship, but Britons are almost three times as likely as Americans to believe there isn't one.
President Trump heaped praise on the King following his visit, sharing that he views him as "the greatest King in my book".
Discussing the relationship between King Charles and Donald Trump, body language expert Darren Stanton previously shared that they have a "fantastic relationship".
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, the body language expert said: "I think the two of them have a fantastic relationship and a strong bond. Charles demonstrated his fantastic sense of humour in this."
Mr Stanton then, speaking about the moment President Trump told the King that his late mother had a crush on him, added: "He rolled his eyes and raised his eyebrows as if to say 'thanks for that'."
