On the outskirts of Jammu city, Thai women were allegedly operating a sex racket in the highly sensitive Kunjwani-Talab area from the rented house of a Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Late on Friday evening, a team from Gangyal Police Station conducted a raid following a tip-off and arrested five persons, including two women from Thailand, for their alleged involvement in immoral activities.
This is not the first time that Thai women have been arrested in connection with such activities. Earlier, in February this year, three women from Thailand were arrested in similar cases.
Reports said that police busted a prostitution racket operating from a house in Bandhu Rakh, Kunjwani, on the outskirts of the city. Five persons, including two Thai women, were arrested.
The most shocking aspect of the case is that the alleged immoral activities were being carried out from the rented house of an SPO of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who is posted at the District Police Lines (DPL), Jammu.
Gangyal Police have registered an FIR in this regard. However, the police have not disclosed whether the SPO has been arrested.
According to police sources, Gangyal Police Station received intelligence inputs that suspicious and immoral activities were taking place in a house in the Bandhu Rakh area. Acting on this information, a special police team raided the house late on Friday evening.
Sources said that the police are questioning the detained Thai women to identify those involved in bringing foreign women to the Jammu region for the sex trade.
“Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether a wider network is involved,” a senior police officer said.
Earlier, Three Thai Women Were Detained
The detention of two Thai women has raised many eyebrows, as three women from Thailand were arrested earlier this year during raids on two spa centres in Jammu.
While the women were detained in connection with alleged immoral and unethical activities, the bigger concern for the authorities is how foreign nationals managed to reside and work in Jammu without the knowledge or clearance of security agencies.
Highly placed sources said that the presence of foreign women operating in the city “under the radar” has been taken very seriously, with agencies now probing the possibility of a larger organised network.
On February 16 this year, Jammu Police detained several individuals, including two Thai nationals, during a raid on a spa centre in the Narwal area on the outskirts of the city.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs suggesting that foreign nationals were residing and working at the establishment without valid travel documents or mandatory permissions.
Police teams conducted a detailed search of the premises, scrutinising visitor registers, employment records, and other documents. Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and other incriminating material were seized for forensic examination.
Earlier, another Thai woman was detained during a raid on a spa centre in the Channi Himmat area of Jammu city.
The spa owner, a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana, was booked under FIR No. 237/2025 at Police Station Channi Himmat under Section 24 of the Immigration Act and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly harbouring a foreign national without obtaining mandatory permission or providing prior intimation to the authorities.
