India’s Parul Chaudhary put up a commendable display, finishing seventh in women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the inaugural Diamond League meet of the season in Shanghai, China on Saturday.
Competing in a stacked field, Chaudhary clocked 9:12.84 to complete the race in the seventh position. It was just 0.38s short of her own national record, which stands at 9:12.46s.
What made Chaudhary’s run even better is the fact that it was her season opener, having not competed anywhere before it.
The women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the Shanghai Diamond League was won by Uganda’s Chemutai Peruth, clocking 8:51.47.
Faith Cherotich of Kenya crossed the finish line at 8:51.48 in what was a photo finish for the top two spots.
