ICC Action On Cricket Canada: Canada Cricket Board has suffered a major setback amid IPL 2026. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has stopped funding to Cricket Canada for 6 months. The ICC has taken this decision due to allegations to administrative irregularities, poor functioning and corruption within the board. At present the Canadian Cricket Board is going through a big crisis. ICCC has informed the board that the suspension on their funding will continue for the next 6 months.

If we look at the data of financial records, it would be found that in the year 2024, about 63 percent of the total earnings of Cricket Canada came from ICCA funding. Cricket Canada’s total income was approximately 5.6 million Canadian dollars. Of this, about $3.5 million came from ICC funding. In such a situation, this is a big blow for Cricket Canada.

Why was the funding stopped?

According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, ICC has stopped the funding given to Cricket Canada due to administrative issues. However, complete information about the shortcomings in the governance systems has not been revealed yet. A Canadian investigative documentary had revealed that Cricket Canada had violated ICC rules. The financial transactions and functioning of the board were not being properly supervised. Not only this, recently a case of fixing has come to light in the match played between Canada and New Zealand in the T20 World Cup played in India and Sri Lanka. ICC’s anti-corruption unit is investigating this matter.

Canada Cricket Board in controversy

Canada Cricket Board has been surrounded by many controversies for some time. Last year also a lot of administrative problems had come to light in the board. Former CEO Khan had to be removed from his post within a short time. Actually, Salman Khan had hidden the criminal cases of theft and fraud going on against him. However, Salman Khan has refused to accept these allegations. Not only this, a phone call recording from last year is also being investigated. It is alleged that some former members of the board had put pressure on the then coach Khurram Chohan to select their favorite players in the team.
