London: Amidst political turmoil in Britain, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has told people close to him that he is ready to resign. The Daily Mail, quoting a cabinet minister, has reported that Starmer wants to step down from the post of Prime Minister, but wants to do it on his own terms.

“They have understood that the current chaos cannot continue much longer. They want to do it in a respectful manner and on their own terms. They will also decide on a timetable,” the source said.

UK government in crisis

Pressure on Keir Starmer’s Labor government is increasing on many fronts. Resentment among voters is increasing rapidly. There was controversy over the appointment of Peter Mandelson and his past ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The Labor Party’s crushing defeat in local elections also worsened the situation. Now the demand for resignation has intensified.

Recently, Wes Streeting, who was the Health Minister, resigned. On Saturday he said he would stand against Starmer in a future Labor Party leadership challenge. He appealed to Starmer to announce the time-table of his resignation.

Starmer’s popularity declined

Starmer’s image has been badly tarnished. According to a YouGov survey, about 69 percent of British citizens have a negative opinion towards him. He has become the least popular Prime Minister of Britain. Many people are comparing him with the lease truce government which lasted only 49 days.

Dissatisfaction is also increasing within the Labor Party. Many MPs are worried that if Starmer’s popularity falls further, the party could suffer huge losses in the coming elections. Due to this, the power of the country may go into the hands of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and his right-wing forces.

Starmer is still saying that he wants to strengthen the party, but internal and external pressures are making it difficult for him. If the sources are correct then Britain may soon get a new Prime Minister. This crisis has become a big test for the Labor government. The opposition is trying to use this to its advantage. Common people are troubled by inflation, health services and everyday problems, which is affecting Starmer’s leadership ability.
