Gaza Strip . The Israeli Army carried out a major airstrike in Gaza City on Friday evening, targeting Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the head of Hamas’s military wing, the Qassim Brigades. Israel’s Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) and Defense Minister (Israel Katz) have officially confirmed the attack. However, it is not yet clear whether al-Haddad has been killed or injured. Hamas has also not issued any official statement in this regard.
According to Gaza health officials, Israel carried out at least two major airstrikes on Friday evening. Witnesses reported the first attack targeted a residential building in the Rimal area of Gaza City, while a passing vehicle was also targeted shortly afterward. Three to seven people were killed and more than 20 injured in the attacks. The injured were taken to Shifa and Sarai hospitals.
Israel says Izz al-Din al-Haddad was the mastermind of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. According to the Israeli government, al-Haddad was appointed Hamas’s new military chief after the death of Mohammed Sinwar in May 2025. Israel has accused him of plotting the murders and kidnappings of numerous Israeli civilians and soldiers.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said that no one involved in the October 7 attack would be spared. He warned that “if not today, then tomorrow, Israel will reach out to its enemies.”
It is noteworthy that a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, but despite this, the violence in Gaza shows no signs of abating. Both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the agreement. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 850 Palestinian civilians have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect, while the total death toll since the war began is estimated to be more than 72,000.
