Sunil Narine etched his name into IPL folklore on Saturday, becoming the first overseas player to complete 200 appearances in the tournament, during Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash against Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens.
Since his debut in 2012, Narine has been a one-club man, representing KKR exclusively across 14 seasons. He joins an elite group otherwise dominated by Indian stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who jointly lead the charts with 279 appearances, and MS Dhoni with 278.
Narine’s impact stretches beyond numbers. He is the only player in IPL history to score over 1,000 runs and claim 200 wickets, and has been named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player three times. Earlier this month, he became the first overseas bowler to reach 200 IPL wickets, joining Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in that exclusive club.
At 37, the Trinidadian mystery spinner continues to defy age, cementing his legacy as arguably the greatest overseas player the IPL has ever seen.
