New Delhi . For the last few days, many discussions were going on in the social media and tech world regarding the free 15GB storage available on Google account. It was claimed in the reports that only 5GB free storage is being offered to some new users. Now Google has clarified the situation by issuing an official statement on this matter.

In a statement given to tech website Android Authority, a Google spokesperson said that the company is currently testing the new storage policy in some selected areas. Its aim is to provide users with better storage quality, stronger account security and better data recovery facilities.

According to Google, this testing is being done only on some new accounts. However, the company has not disclosed the areas where this testing is going on. The company also clarified that old users will continue to get 15GB free storage for Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos as before. Especially the accounts which have mobile number linked, they will not be affected by any change.

Meanwhile, Google has also changed the language of its support page. Earlier it was written there that every Google account includes 15GB of storage, but now it has been changed to “up to a maximum of 15GB of storage”. It was only after this that new speculations gained momentum.

In fact, a few days ago many users claimed that while creating a new Google account, they saw only 5GB of free storage. Later, after verifying the mobile number, received a message of providing 15GB storage. After this, the discussion intensified on social media that Google is going to reduce its free storage limit.

However, after the latest statement of the company, it has become clear that at present the 15GB free storage is not being completely removed, rather it is only a testing process being done on a limited level.
