New Delhi:- Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is continuously setting new records in the direction of upgrading and modernizing health services. Due to the special priorities of the state government, unprecedented improvement has been recorded in women and child health indicators in the state.

The government is achieving great success in saving the lives of newborns due to strengthening of modern health infrastructure, specialist medical services and effective monitoring system.
Historic increase in treatment capacity and expansion of beds
There has been a significant increase in the treatment capacity of Special Newborn Care Units (SNCU) operated in the state for better treatment of low birth weight, premature and seriously ill newborns. While in the financial year 2024-25, treatment was provided to 1 lakh 29 thousand 212 newborns, in the year 2025-26 this number has increased to 1 lakh 34 thousand 410. Along with this, the government has increased the number of beds in ICU care units from 1654 to 1770, due to which more number of serious babies are able to get life-saving treatment on time.
Better performance than the national average and excellent discharge rates
According to the latest data, a total of 15 thousand 54 newborns were treated in 62 SNCUs operated in the state from April 1 to May 15, 2026, out of which 12 thousand 818 infants were discharged after successful recovery. The discharge rate here was 85.2 percent, which is much higher than the national average. Apart from this, the LAMA rate has come down to only 2.12 percent, referral rate to 4.2 percent and death rate to 8.29 percent, which shows a better situation than the national average.

Innovative initiatives like “Zero Separation” and “Maternal Milk Bank”
To strengthen child health, the concept of MNCU (Mother and New Born Care Unit) has been expanded in the state as per the guidelines of the Government of India. The 23 currently operational MNCU units are working on the “Zero Separation” principle, where mother and newborn are not separated, thereby promoting Kangaroo Mother Care and breastfeeding. Along with this, 241.6 liters of milk was donated by 1,031 voluntary mothers in the year 2025-26 through two Maternal Milk Units (CLMC) functional in Indore and Bhopal.
Digital Innovation: Situation improved with ‘e-Shishu Project’
‘E-Shishu Project’ is being effectively operated in the state by incorporating technology in health services. A total of 9,889 newborns have benefited from this project since December 2025. This digital innovation has shown excellent results in 16 SNCU spoke units of Indore and Ujjain divisions, where due to expert guidance, the average referral rate has reduced from 5% to 4% and the mortality rate has reduced from 8% to just 6 percent.
