New Delhi: World Yoga Day is around the corner, and on this occasion, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is sharing new information to spread the importance of Yoga to the general public. In this context, the Ministry has highlighted the benefits of Matsyasana.

According to the ministry, if you are experiencing eye strain, throat discomfort, or back stiffness, it is a sign from your body that it needs extra care. Due to today’s fast-paced lifestyle and constant use of screens, these problems have become common. Complaints of eye fatigue, neck and throat stiffness, and back pain are increasing among people working on computers, mobiles or laptops for long periods of time.

Importance of Matsyasana

Yoga experts say that Matsyasana is an effective yoga to solve these problems. This is also called ‘fish pose’. This asana makes the spine flexible, opens the chest, and reduces tension in the shoulders and neck. Regular exercise strengthens the neck, throat, and back muscles, reduces eye fatigue, and improves breathing ability.

This asana also helps in keeping the thyroid gland healthy. Along with reducing stress and anxiety, it increases energy circulation in the body. The ministry says small and conscious habits, like practicing yoga for a few minutes every day, can bring big positive changes in lifestyle.


Matsyasana practice

To practice Matsyasana, first lie down on your back on the mat. Place the palms under the body and rest the elbows on the ground. While inhaling, raise the chest and move the head back so that the upper part of the head touches the ground. Stay in this position for a few seconds and then return to normal position. In the beginning it is better to practice under the supervision of a yoga expert. Women suffering from serious diseases and pregnant women should start practicing only after expert advice.
