New Delhi. Positive news has come for India amid rising tensions in West Asia and global concerns over energy supply. Marshall Islands flagged tanker ‘Simi’ reached Kandla Port in Gujarat safely carrying about 20 thousand tonnes of LPG. This tanker reached India on May 13 after crossing the world’s most important sea route, the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a highly sensitive and strategic waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to other sea routes of the world, through which a large part of the global oil and gas supply passes. In such a situation, the safe arrival of the tanker even in the situation of tension in this region is considered important for India.
High level talks between India and Iran
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met India’s Foreign Minister S. Spoke to Jaishankar on phone. Araghchi said Iran is fully committed to ensuring the security of the trade interests of friendly countries. He wrote on social media platform X that there was a positive discussion between the two countries on the regional situation. Iran considers the security of the Strait of Hormuz as its historical responsibility and will remain a reliable partner for all friendly countries.
According to sources, on May 13, another LPG tanker ‘MV Sunshine’ was also crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The concerned agencies including the Indian Navy provided all possible assistance in taking it safely to India. This is said to be the 15th LPG tanker to reach India safely from the Persian Gulf.
Iran said – situation will get better with peace
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that security and transparency in the Strait of Hormuz will increase more than ever once peace is established in the region. He clarified that no country will violate international law.
Gharibabadi said in New Delhi ahead of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting that Iran would welcome any diplomatic initiative by India to reduce tensions in West Asia. He described India’s role as impartial and pro-peace. Also mentioned the depth of cultural and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
This development reflects the strength of India’s energy security and diplomatic efforts despite the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
