According to the Hindu calendar, Adhikamaas is going to last from 17th May to 15th June. This month is also known as Purushottam month. According to religious beliefs, Jyeshtha month is going to last for 60 days instead of 30 days, that is why this month is called Adhik Maas. According to religious beliefs, Adhikamas is considered very auspicious for performing religious works. That is, chanting and penance of Lord Vishnu should be done so that the devotees get double the results of these deeds.
The entire month of Adhik Maas is considered the month of Lord Vishnu. This month, devotees get double the benefits just by taking the name of Lord Vishnu. Mythological story to Adhik Maas
According to religious beliefs, long ago this month had no lord. For this reason, earlier people used to avoid doing any auspicious work in this month. Because of which this month was called Malmas, which means dull. This month was considered the most negative compared to every other month.
Seeing this Malmas was very sad. When he narrated his problem to Lord Vishnu, Lord Vishnu blessed him. Lord Vishnu said that henceforth this month will not be called Malmas but Purushottam month. Any devotee who worships with true heart this month will get double the results.
What to do in Adhikamaas?
Formal worship – This month, worship of Lord Vishnu should be done as per the rituals.
Keep a fast – This month, the special blessings of Lord Vishnu fall on all people. For this reason, everyone should observe Ekadashi fast this month.
Chanting of mantras – Chanting of mantras is considered very auspicious in Hindu religion. According to religious beliefs, by chanting mantras this month, the sins of the devotees are erased.
lamp donation every day – Light ghee lamps in your temple every morning and evening this month.
Recitation of religious texts – Reading religious texts increases a person’s religious knowledge.
