In the rural region of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, the tragic deaths of two sisters have led to significant unrest. The elder sister took her own life in March after enduring years of gang rape and blackmail. Just two months later, her younger sister, overwhelmed by threats from the perpetrators and the lack of justice, also ended her life. This incident has raised serious allegations against local police for negligence and failure to act against the accused. The victims' father has publicly criticized the police's handling of the case, demanding a fair investigation and severe punishment for those responsible.
Four Years of Abuse for the Elder Sister
According to a complaint filed with the police on April 11, the younger sister revealed that her elder sibling had fallen victim to Mahipal, a local e-Mitra service center operator. Mahipal secretly recorded explicit videos of her and, along with his accomplices, subjected her to physical abuse for nearly four years, extorting money by threatening to release the videos. Unable to bear the horrific mental and physical torment, the elder sister took her life on March 20.
Named Accusations Against Eight Individuals
In her complaint, the younger sister named eight individuals, including the main accused Mahipal, along with Shivraj, Gopal, Vijram, Dinesh, Manoj, and Pukhraj. They were all accused of gang rape and issuing death threats. Following her sister's death, the younger sibling warned the police that if justice was not served, she too would take her life. Although an FIR was filed, it was reported that the police took no substantial action for a month.
Threats Persist for the Younger Sister
Even after the elder sister's death, the threats from the accused continued. The younger sister claimed that the perpetrators began harassing her as well, threatening to post her deceased sister's videos online and subjecting her to sexual harassment. Despite the FIR being lodged, the accused roamed freely, openly threatening her and asserting that the police could not harm them.
Despair Leads to Tragic Decision
In a desperate plea for justice, the younger sister climbed a water tank on Friday, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Following her demands, she consumed poison, tragically passing away en route to the hospital.
Community Outrage in Marwar Rajput Society
This heartbreaking incident has ignited outrage within the Marwar Rajput community. A large crowd gathered outside the MDM Hospital to protest, where the bodies were kept in the mortuary. After initial protests, the family has now agreed to proceed with the post-mortem. Hanuman Singh Khangta, president of the Marwar Rajput Society, directly accused the police of protecting the accused during the investigation, which ultimately cost both sisters their lives. The community is demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and the dismissal of negligent police officers. In response to the escalating situation, the police have assured that a departmental inquiry will be conducted against the guilty officials.
