Mumbai: Dhurandhar 2 is following an unusual two-phase OTT release strategy, with the makers splitting streaming rights between Netflix and JioHotstar for different regions and release timelines.
The Aditya Dhar directorial, officially titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has already begun streaming internationally from May 15. However, Indian audiences will have to wait until June for its digital premiere.
The strategy marks a major shift from the first film in the franchise, which followed a traditional single-platform OTT release model.
International release already live
The film is currently available for audiences outside India on Netflix and Hotstar as part of its international streaming rollout.
The overseas version includes the “Raw & Undekha” extended cut, which reportedly contains uncensored dialogues, additional violent scenes and extended action sequences not shown in theatres.
The international release generated strong online buzz, with viewers comparing the OTT cut to the theatrical version.
JioHotstar to stream first in India
In India, JioHotstar will be the first platform to stream the film.
According to the announced schedule, Dhurandhar The Revenge: Raw & Undekha will premiere on JioHotstar on June 4 at 7 pm.
The film will then be available for full streaming access on the platform from June 5 onwards.
Industry observers believe the staggered release strategy was planned carefully to maximise digital viewership while avoiding overlap with the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
Netflix India release delayed
While JioHotstar gets early streaming access in India, Netflix subscribers in the country will receive the film later.
Reports suggest the film will arrive on Netflix India on June 19.
This delayed rollout has sparked curiosity among fans, especially because Netflix reportedly owns the international streaming rights while JioHotstar acquired the Indian digital rights separately.
According to reports, JioHotstar secured the India streaming rights for nearly Rs 150 crore.
Makers experiment with dual-platform strategy
The release model is being viewed as a rare experiment in Indian OTT distribution.
Instead of granting exclusive global rights to one streaming platform, the makers have split domestic and international rights between different services.
Trade analysts say the strategy could help the film reach wider audiences while maximising revenue from regional streaming markets.
The move also reflects increasing competition among streaming platforms for blockbuster Indian titles.
Dhurandhar 2 emerged as major box office success
The film performed strongly at the global box office following its theatrical release in March.
Reports state that Dhurandhar 2 earned nearly Rs 1,783 crore worldwide, including more than Rs 1,153 crore from India alone.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film continues the story of Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who infiltrates a criminal network while pursuing revenge and covert missions.
Star-studded cast boosts anticipation
The film features a large ensemble cast led by Ranveer Singh alongside R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt and others.
The spy-action thriller has continued to dominate online discussions due to its violent action sequences, real-life inspirations and expanded OTT cut.
With both JioHotstar and Netflix now involved in its streaming journey, Dhurandhar 2 is set to remain one of the most talked-about digital releases of the year.
