Keeping your home clean can be tricky - especially when life gets busy. It can easily begin to feel overwhelming, but there are numerous practical methods to stay on top of your household duties, and many of them are simpler than you might imagine.
One practical suggestion shared on Reddit left social media users "amazed" at how effective it proved for maintaining clean and organised homes. The ingenious approach was posted in response to another user's request for advice on keeping their home tidy, explaining that they were "embarrassed and too busy to clean".
The user, who revealed they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mentioned they had considered hiring a cleaner and sought guidance about keeping their home tidy, reports the Mirror. Writing on the social media platform, they explained: "I'm way too embarrassed to post a photo. My bedroom is not a biohazard, it's just covered in clothes, garbage and papers. You can't see the floor. My bathroom is just disgusting.

"I'm terrified of anyone seeing the state of my life right now. I'm a full time student and work full time so a big task like this is nearly impossible to find time for. The mess has been building up since August."
The person added: "I'm panicked because I feel so much shame. I have nightmares about people seeing my bathroom."
Another user responded that they often encounter similar issues when they're feeling low. "I often don't realise I've slipped into a state of depression but my place will reflect it," they admitted. "I also really struggle to stay tidy in general. No need to feel shame!"
They went on to share a tip they found useful. "Set a realistic time you can clean for daily - even 10 minutes," they suggested.
"Set a timer on your phone, no distractions. You can choose to conquer one space at a time or more. I'd recommend starting with your bathroom.
"One: Pick up all the garbage and get it outside your space. Two: Put laundry in the hamper or away.
"Three: Do one surface at a time. Tidy up everything around the sink for example. Try to remind yourself to keep it that way. Make part of your 10 minute tidy keeping your conquered areas tidy.
"I recently did this for myself and have conquered downstairs and need to do upstairs next. To encourage myself to keep downstairs clean I try invite someone over for a coffee or drink a few times per month."
Another Reddit user replied that this tip had worked well for them. They said: "I'm actually amazed how much I can do in those few minutes and sometimes I end up just doing a little bit more cuz I am in the groove."
And another added: "Getting your space back to normality is never as bad as you build it up to be in your head. You can totally hire a cleaner to get it clean. It's a great idea.
"But it'll be such a load off of your mind if you get a few contractor trash bags, put on some music and rip for like 20 minutes. You'd be shocked how much junk you can throw in to bags in 20 minutes."
