Michael Carrick singled out two players in his on-pitch speech after Manchester United's final Premier League home fixture of the season saw them secure a 3-2 triumph over Nottingham Forest. Goals from Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo sealed the three points, though the result itself was almost secondary given the sheer amount of drama unfolding around it.
Casemiro made his farewell appearance at Old Trafford ahead of his expected departure this summer, while Bruno Fernandes matched the Premier League single-season assist record after teeing up Mbeumo for the decisive goal against Forest. Carrick addressed supporters following the final whistle, with his confirmation as permanent head coach understood to be imminent. The caretaker head coach singled out two players as he spoke to fans on the pitch.
He said: "Thank you, I could listen to that (chants from the fans) all night, but we have to stop. What a way to end the season. I thought we played ever so well today. It's unbelievable to see this place like this, it's such a special place.
"I have to say to everybody, this is such a good group of players. I know we're here for football and the performances but they're a really good group of people and I think that's important. Especially at this football club, that we sacrifice for each other and look after each other. They desperately want to do well, the players.
"I of course have got to thank the staff, all the backroom staff, the support they have given all of us. The staff throughout the whole club. The effort and the sacrifice that everyone goes through is what makes this place so special.
"We have players leaving us and out of contract. Case has been incredible. We have a really good connection and it's nice to see the response that you give for him.
"We have Tyrell [Malacia] as well, who I mentioned to the boys before kick-off. He's had a tough time with injuries since he's been here. Please could you show your appreciation to Tyrell.

"Lastly a huge thank you from me for the support this season. We enjoy the ups, we enjoy the downs, we support each other. The best thing about this place, as Case has just said, it's you lot - the supporters. It's easy to support and enjoy when everything's good and nice and everyone joins in and everything's great.
"But the connection I've felt since I walked in this club 20 years ago, even in the tough and challenging times, it's when we stick together. This place is incredible. You're a one-off and that's what this football club is all about so thank you.
"We've had some big moments and some big goals in this place over the last few months. Hopefully we have more of them. Take care and have a great summer."
Casemiro said in his farewell speech: "Thank you very much to everyone, thank you the players and thank you the staff, but the best thing about this club is you fans. It's you fans."
