Gandhinagar: Stating that the West Bengal of today resembles the villages of Gujarat in 1965, Union Minister for Home and Cooperative Affairs Amit Shah on Sunday said that fifty years of non-development has pushed Bengal into an abyss.
He said this while inaugurating developmental project in his home constituency in Gandhinagar. Shah is on a two-day visit to Gujarat for the first time after his party's massive win in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry.
"The state which was most prosperous at the time of partition has been dragged to this situation by people who called themselves the protectors of democracy," Shah added.

Earlier in the day, while inaugurating the newly-constructed 'Million Minds Tech Park' and Global Capability Centre (GCC) campus, developed by a private builder group, Shah said that while many states have achieved industrial progress, Gujarat stands apart because of its structured development model. He said the fundamental reason for this is that the Gujarati people have traditionally advanced with the qualities of entrepreneurship and courage, and the government. Recalling the contribution of PM Narendra Modi, Shah said he (Modi) has played a significant role in creating an infrastructure conducive to this.

Gujarat has consistently led the nation in multiple sectors since independence and is poised to become a leader in new-age technologies. Shah later inaugurated the Innovation & Incubation Centre at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. Shah also inaugurated the milk processing plant of Madhur Dairy at Dashela in Gandhinagar. Addressing the public there, Shah stressed upon the importance of the dairy sector as a medium of women empowerment.
