Tezzbuzz Desk – Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East and increasing challenges on the Strait of Hormuz, a relief news has emerged for India. To maintain the supply of LPG in the country, two big LPG tankers are in the process of reaching India safely. One of these ships has reached Kandla Port in Gujarat, while the other will reach Mangalore Port on Monday. A total of 66,427 metric tons of LPG is loaded in these two ships, which can fill about 46.7 lakh domestic gas cylinders.

Marshall Islands flagged LPG tanker ‘Symi’ has reached Kandla Port carrying about 20 thousand tonnes of gas. The ship has been docked at the oil jetty of Kandla Port and unloading is going to start soon. At the same time, the second big tanker ‘NV Sunshine’ with the flag of Vietnam is moving towards the west coast of India carrying about 46,427 tonnes of LPG. It is likely to reach Mangalore Port on Monday.

According to energy experts, about 80 to 90 thousand tonnes of LPG is consumed every day in the country. In such a situation, this consignment may not be able to meet the needs of the entire country for a long time, but strategically its importance is very big. India imports about 60 percent of its LPG requirements. Therefore, continuous safe arrival of tankers is considered necessary to maintain the emergency buffer stock of the country.

About 46.7 lakh domestic cylinders can be filled with a total of 66,427 metric tons of LPG i.e. about 6.64 crore kilograms of gas. About 55 lakh cylinders are delivered every day in India. That means this consignment is considered equal to the country’s requirement for one day. With this, bottling plants of Gujarat, Karnataka and surrounding states will be able to work at full capacity for several days.

It is noteworthy that due to increasing tension in West Asia, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz was being affected. In such circumstances, ‘Symi’ safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz on 13 May and ‘NV Sunshine’ on 14 May. During this time, the Indian boat ‘Haji Ali’ was also attacked in the maritime area of Oman, although all 14 crew members were rescued safely.

The Petroleum Ministry of the Government of India is continuously monitoring this entire situation. The Ministry has said that domestic LPG supply is being given top priority and at present there is no information of supply disruption from anywhere. Apart from this, DAC based delivery system has also been strengthened to prevent black marketing.
