Subnautica 2 pushes players into deeper and stranger waters as they move beyond the safer starting areas. Early tools help you gather materials and unlock basic technology, but later progression starts demanding stronger equipment. One of the most important upgrades you can get is the Bioscanner. This tool becomes valuable because it expands what your regular Scanner can do and opens paths that remain locked without it.
The Bioscanner is not simply another gadget sitting in your inventory. It works as an upgraded version of the standard Scanner and allows players to interact with alien life and systems in ways that are impossible during the opening stages of the game. If you are planning to progress smoothly through later regions, obtaining it should become one of your priorities.
Where To Find The Bioscanner Blueprint
The Bioscanner does not appear early in your adventure. You will need to travel farther from your starting area than you might expect. The blueprint is located inside the Cicada Wreck in an area connected to the Blackbox Iso Signal and regions near the Alien Ruins.
Reaching this location means preparing for a longer trip across dangerous territory. The route takes you well east of your Lifepod and toward darker waters filled with strange structures and more threatening creatures.
Before leaving, make sure you have the following items:
• A standard Scanner
• A Repair Tool
• Enough oxygen support
• Spare batteries
• Food and water supplies
• A light source if available
The wreck interior can become dark and confusing, so preparation makes a huge difference.
How To Reach The Wreck Safely
As you approach the Alien Ruins section, continue following the objectives until you gain information connected to the Iso signal. The Cicada Wreck should eventually become your target destination.
The trip itself is not particularly difficult, but survival depends heavily on planning. The deeper you travel, the more dangerous the ocean becomes. Hostile creatures may appear suddenly, and oxygen management starts becoming more important.
Many players rush directly toward objectives and end up losing resources or getting stranded far away from safety. Instead, move carefully and keep an eye on your surroundings. If you already have movement upgrades or improved diving equipment, the journey becomes much easier.
Once you reach the wreck, look for damaged sections that allow entry.
How To Unlock The Bioscanner Blueprint
Entering the wreck is only part of the process. You cannot simply swim in and immediately collect the Bioscanner.
Inside the structure you will encounter damaged sections and blocked paths. Use your Repair Tool where necessary and continue moving deeper into the interior spaces. You may also come across useful items and upgrade opportunities while exploring.
Move through the rooms and descend farther into the wreck. At the lower sections of the structure you should find the degraded Bioscanner waiting for you.
Take out your standard Scanner and scan it.
Scanning the object unlocks the blueprint rather than giving you the finished item immediately. Many players miss this detail and wonder why the tool never appears in their inventory after finding it.
Bioscanner Crafting Recipe
After unlocking the blueprint, head to a Modification Station and craft the upgrade.
The required materials include:
• 1 Scanner
• 2 Enameled Glass
• 3 Conduit Crystal
Since the Bioscanner upgrades your regular Scanner, your existing Scanner becomes part of the recipe.
Some of these materials are found near Alien Ruins regions, so gathering them while exploring can save time later.
A few small mistakes can turn this expedition into an annoying resource loss. Bring backup batteries because long trips and multiple tool uses drain power faster than expected. Keep extra oxygen options if possible, and avoid entering unfamiliar caves while distracted by scanning opportunities. Saving resources during the journey matters because returning across large distances can take time.
If you already own better fins or mobility upgrades, equip them before leaving. Faster movement reduces travel time and lowers the chance of getting trapped by aggressive creatures during exploration.
Also remember to scan nearby objects inside the wreck because hidden blueprints and useful upgrades may appear during your search for future progression needs.
