In a world where compassion often feels rare, the story of Tarun Mishra stands as a powerful reminder that humanity still thrives in quiet corners. Originally from Bihar and now based in Gujarat, Tarun has become a beacon of hope for abandoned children, elderly citizens, homeless individuals and people battling illness with nowhere to turn.
Through his organisation, the Help Drive Foundation, he now oversees 22 shelter homes across Gujarat, changing countless lives with nothing more than determination, empathy and relentless hard work.
The Man Behind the Mission
Anyone who follows Tarun on social media has likely witnessed his extraordinary acts of kindness. Whether it is rescuing abandoned elderly parents, comforting people in distress or helping vulnerable children find safety, his work carries a rare sincerity that deeply resonates with people.
Yet Tarun himself remains remarkably grounded.
“No work has a 100% success rate. Even when we want to help people, some are unwilling to come with us to shelter homes. They have either grown used to that kind of life or have become sceptical. However, we try really hard,” he says.
His words reflect the difficult realities of social work, but also the persistence that defines his journey. Tarun’s life proves that success does not always require wealth or influence. Sometimes, all it takes is the right intention and the courage to keep going.
From Financial Struggles to Social Change
Tarun’s journey began in Bihar before his family moved to Delhi when he was just five years old. He studied in Delhi government municipal schools while his father worked as a pharmacist. However, life became difficult after his father lost his job.
At an age when most children focus solely on school, Tarun stepped forward to support his family. As a sixth-standard student, he spent a year selling religious books outside a temple in Sarojini Nagar. When the small business began doing well, his father took over and Tarun returned to Bihar to continue his education while staying with his maternal grandparents.
Despite the hardships, he excelled academically, securing first division marks in both Class 10 and 12 examinations. He later cleared an engineering entrance examination and returned to Delhi for higher studies.
A Turning Point Inside Shelter Homes
Life in Delhi was far from easy. With limited financial resources and no money to rent accommodation, Tarun chose to stay in a shelter home. It was there that he witnessed human suffering up close.
Instead of distancing himself from those struggles, he immersed himself in helping others. He volunteered tirelessly and earned the trust and respect of the people around him.
But tragedy struck once again when his father passed away suddenly. As the eldest son, family responsibilities fell entirely on his shoulders.
Tarun eventually moved to Surat to assist his maternal uncle with a small business. What followed was years of relentless hard work.
“There is no substitute for hard work,” Tarun says.
He travelled across the outskirts of Surat on his scooter, personally taking orders from shopkeepers and delivering products himself. His determination eventually helped him build a successful business and fulfil his late father’s dream of owning a pharmacy.
Building 22 Shelter Homes Across Gujarat
For many people, financial stability marks the beginning of a comfortable life focused on personal ambitions. For Tarun, it became the starting point of something far bigger.
He began working with government-run shelter homes in Surat, dedicating his time to improving conditions for residents. His hands-on approach and deep commitment soon drew widespread appreciation.
As word of his work spread, municipalities from other cities started seeking his help and guidance. What began as a small initiative gradually evolved into a large-scale humanitarian mission.
Today, Tarun manages 22 shelter homes across Gujarat and is steadily expanding his work into cities such as Mumbai.
More Than Shelter, Restoring Human Dignity
What makes Tarun’s work especially remarkable is the emotional bond he shares with the people living in these homes. Children and elderly residents often run to embrace him whenever he visits, a reflection of the trust and affection he has earned over the years.
His shelter homes are not merely places that provide food and accommodation. They are spaces where people rediscover dignity, safety and hope.
Tarun and his team help reunite separated families, arrange medical treatment for those in need and ensure residents receive nutritious meals and proper care. Above all, every person is treated with humanity and respect.
For many individuals who arrive broken and abandoned, these homes become places where life begins again.
“There Is No End to Desires”
Despite the scale of his impact, Tarun remains humble about his achievements.
“My brother manages the business, and hence I am able to do this. My family does ask me sometimes to focus more on work, but I feel that our life is much better than what it used to be, so what more do you need in life? There is no end to desires.”
His words capture a philosophy that feels increasingly rare in today’s fast-paced world, the belief that fulfilment comes not from endless ambition, but from meaningful service to others.
A Powerful Lesson in Humanity
At a time when kindness often feels overshadowed by self-interest, Tarun Mishra’s story stands as a deeply moving example of what one determined individual can achieve.
He may not possess extraordinary wealth or political influence, but he has something far more powerful, an unwavering commitment to helping people who have nowhere else to turn.
His journey reminds us that genuine change does not always begin with money or status. Sometimes, it begins with a compassionate heart willing to care when others look away.
