The second cycle of IIT Kanpur's online post-graduate programs has commenced. Recently, the institute launched four new online M.Tech courses. All courses have been designed to align with contemporary industry demands, including M.Tech programs in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Construction Engineering and Project Management, Smart Grids, and Sustainable Energy Technology. IIT Kanpur stated that these courses are designed to address skill-gap requirements in sectors such as infrastructure, intelligent systems, clean energy, and power networks. Classes for these programs are scheduled to begin in September.
According to the institute, all four courses will be conducted entirely in an online mode and have received approval from the IIT Kanpur Senate. These courses can be completed over a duration ranging from two to four years. The institute noted that the flexible structure of these programs is designed to cater to both working professionals and recent graduates, enabling candidates to pursue their post-graduate studies alongside their professional responsibilities.
**Course Focus**
The M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will focus on AI-based systems and data-driven technologies—areas witnessing rapid growth across various industries—while the Smart Grids course aims to address issues related to modern power distribution systems and energy management technologies.
Similarly, the Sustainable Energy Technology course will focus on renewable energy systems and sustainable engineering solutions, whereas the Construction Engineering and Project Management program aims to cover infrastructure planning, implementation, and project management methodologies. According to the institute, these courses have been curated to align with evolving national and global industry requirements.
**Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process**
To be eligible for admission to these courses, applicants are required to have secured a minimum CPI of 5.5 or 55% marks in their qualifying degree; the admission process will involve a two-stage evaluation procedure. The first stage will be an online entrance examination conducted by IIT Kanpur, and the second stage will be a department-level evaluation, which will be conducted through an online test or interview.
According to the institute, candidates holding a valid GATE score who meet the cut-off criteria may be exempted from the entrance examination. Applicants with at least five years of professional experience may also be considered for exemption, subject to departmental guidelines.
