Rodrigo de Paul, a teammate of Lionel Messi at Inter Miami and the Argentina national team, has shared insights into Messi's rigorous training routine as he prepares for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Despite his extensive achievements in football, Messi, now 38, is more dedicated than ever to defending his title at the upcoming tournament.
Double Training Sessions
According to De Paul, Messi has incorporated double training sessions into his daily schedule, which goes beyond his regular commitments with Inter Miami. In an interview with a media outlet, De Paul mentioned that this training regimen has been ongoing for several months. He stated, "For the past two to three months, we have been following a training plan that exceeds our club activities. We push ourselves hard to achieve peak physical condition, with our trainer guiding us throughout the process."
Messi's Performance in MLS
Messi's exceptional skills remain evident as he continues to shine in his late 30s. In the ongoing 2026 Major League Soccer season, he has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in just 12 matches. His recent performance included a goal and an assist that led Inter Miami to a 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers. Currently, Inter Miami ranks second in the league standings with eight wins, four draws, and three losses, accumulating a total of 28 points, just two points behind the leaders, Nashville.
