A significant incident was narrowly avoided at Sasaram Railway Station in Bihar on Monday when a fire broke out in one of the compartments of the Sasaram-Patna passenger train. The blaze occurred while the train was stationary, and passengers were preparing for their journey. Smoke began to billow from the compartment, quickly followed by visible flames, causing panic among passengers and railway staff present at the scene.

Response to the Fire

Witnesses reported that light smoke was initially observed rising from the first compartment, but within minutes, the fire spread rapidly. Passengers promptly evacuated the train to ensure their safety. Individuals at the station alerted railway officials and the fire brigade about the situation. In response, multiple teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and the fire department arrived at the scene.

Fire Control Efforts

Firefighters quickly initiated rescue and relief operations. After considerable effort, they managed to bring the fire under control. Thanks to the timely response, the flames did not spread to adjacent compartments, preventing a potential disaster. Officials confirmed that there were no reports of injuries or loss of life among passengers, although some seats and belongings inside the compartment were damaged by the fire.

Aftermath and Investigation

Following the incident, a state of chaos briefly ensued at the station. For safety reasons, railway authorities evacuated the platform and relocated passengers to a secure area. Train operations were also temporarily disrupted. Railway officials conducted an inspection of the site and summoned a technical team for further investigation.

Initial inquiries suggest that a short circuit may have caused the fire, but officials stated that the exact cause would be determined after a thorough investigation. The railway administration has ordered a detailed examination of the incident.

Safety Measures and Passenger Concerns

Senior railway officials reported that all passengers were safely evacuated from the train, ensuring no casualties occurred. They also emphasized the need to strengthen safety protocols at stations and on trains. In the aftermath of the incident, passengers expressed fear and concern, urging the railway authorities to conduct regular inspections and enforce safety standards rigorously. Local residents noted that had the fire not been controlled in time, it could have escalated into a major disaster.
