High Court circuit bench in Mangaluru likely to begin by October: Ivan D'Souza

Mangaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to the Chief Justice of the High Court regarding the establishment of a High Court circuit bench in Mangaluru, according to MLC Ivan D'Souza.

Speaking at a press conference, D’Souza said the Chief Minister’s letter mentioned that the required infrastructure for the bench is available. He said the Chief Justice is expected to visit Mangaluru either by the end of this month or in the first week of June to inspect the facilities.

D’Souza, who is also the convener of the High Court Bench Agitation Committee, said the circuit bench is expected to begin functioning by October.

He said the old Deputy Commissioner’s office building, spread across nearly 50,000 square feet, has been identified for the circuit bench. The building can be renovated as needed, and the state government has assured full support for the project, he added.

Mangaluru Bar Association president H.V. Raghavendra, District Government Pleader M.P. Noronha, association secretary Sridhar, treasurer Girish Shetty and vice-president Sujith were present during the press conference.
