The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the NEET-UG exam paper leak by executing a substantial raid in Nanded, Maharashtra. The operation focused on the residence of Bhurav Kadam in the Vidyut Nagar area, lasting approximately eight hours. Investigators allege that Kadam paid a bribe of 5 lakh rupees to obtain leaked exam questions for his daughter prior to the examination.

Following allegations of the NEET-UG 2026 exam paper leak, the government announced the cancellation of the exam, rescheduling it for June 21. Several individuals linked to the case have already been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

Details of the Raid

During the extensive search at Kadam's home, officials examined various documents and questioned several family members. Sources indicated that investigators aimed to determine when the paper was acquired, who provided it, and how the financial transactions were arranged.

Kadam himself was interrogated for several hours, with investigators scrutinizing the entire flat and reviewing records believed to be associated with the alleged payment.

Further Investigations and Arrests

Following the raid, the CBI instructed Kadam and his family members to appear for further questioning in Pune. This operation occurred just a day after the agency interrogated a promoter from a coaching institute in Latur. The investigation is now revealing a network based in Maharashtra linked to the leak.

The agency is tracing connections between Pune, Latur, and Nanded, while also investigating whether candidates and their parents paid money to obtain the exam paper in advance.

Background of the NEET-UG Exam Cancellation

This incident unfolded shortly after the National Testing Agency (NTA) canceled the NEET-UG 2026 exam, citing information from law enforcement agencies that indicated a compromise in the examination's integrity.

Approximately 22 lakh candidates were set to participate in this medical entrance exam, making it one of the largest in the country. The rescheduled test is now set for June 21.

CBI's Role in the Investigation

The case was handed over to the CBI after initial investigations by the Rajasthan Police's Special Operations Group revealed that a handwritten 'guess paper' circulated before the exam bore a striking resemblance to the actual question paper.

Investigators discovered that around 140 questions—out of a total of 720—matched the final exam paper, raising suspicions of an organized group behind the leak.

Arrests and Network Uncovered

The agency has already arrested several individuals, including teachers and those involved in the paper-setting process. Among the arrested are a retired chemistry professor and a botany lecturer, accused of being part of the network that circulated questions for money.

The investigation is also looking into the role of an unidentified official from the NTA, as there are suspicions of insider involvement in the leak.

Expanding Investigation Scope

The CBI has uncovered a significant network related to the paper leak, with roots extending from Maharashtra to Sikar in Rajasthan. Following the raid in Nanded, the investigation's scope is expanding across Maharashtra, with officials indicating that as they connect the financial transactions, more individuals may come under scrutiny.
